Clipboard: Gonzales announces 2026 Hall of Fame Class
The Spartans 300 Club will be inducting six athletes, one coach and one team into the 2026 Gonzales High School Hall of Fame.
Headlining the inductees is the late Stan Hiserman, who was a part of a world-record 880-yard relay team in track and field while attending Stanford in 1937, later captaining the track team.
Joining him will be former multi-sport athletes Ignacio Guzman, Johnny Guzman and Jesus Santos, as well as pole vault school record holder and 2000 Central Coast Section champion Theotis Daniels.
Ignacio Guzman held the school rushing record at Gonzales until it was broken in 2018. His older brother Johnny earned all-league honors in three sports, while Santos competed in football, soccer and track and field.
Three-sport all-leaguer Rosa Ramirez is also being enshrined into the school's Hall of Fame, along with former Gonzales head football coach Mark Ironside and the 2007 CCS champion boys soccer team.
Rancho San Juan hurler signs with Central Oklahoma
Former Monterey Peninsula College and Rancho San Juan pitcher Adam Morris will be pitching next spring for Central Oklahoma.
A member of The Herald's All-County baseball team in 2024, the left-handed throwing Morris fired three no-hitters during his senior season, striking out 86 hitters in 50.1 innings.
A labrum injury to his pitching arm limited him to a handful of innings at MPC, enabling him to receive a medical redshirt year, giving Morris three years of eligibility left.
Currently pitching for the Menlo Oaks Legends in the California Collegiate Summer League, Adams has six strikeouts in 5.3 innings of relief, sporting a 1.59 earned run average.
With his fastball reaching 88 mph last week, Adams is the first baseball player from Rancho San Juan to play at a four-year school. Central Oklahoma is slated to move to Division I in 2028-29.
Johnson promoted to DB coach at BYU
Wesley Johnson has been promoted from graduate assistant linebackers coach to full-time assistant cornerbacks coach for nationally-ranked Brigham Young University.
The former Palma multi-sport standout began his college football coaching career in 2019 at Arizona State, serving as a recruiting assistant while pursuing a master’s degree.
Having played football, basketball and track at Palma, Johnson was promoted to a defensive assistant at ASU from 2021-23 before becoming a graduate assistant at BYU.
One of Johnson's pupils at BYU will be his younger brother Evan, who has been rated the No. 4 returning cornerback in the country by Pro Football & Sports Network.
Johnson's coaching career began in 2018 as a receivers coach at Stevenson.
Walters set to begin third season at Bakersfield
There was no sophomore slump for CJ Walters, who started 10 of the 17 matches she played in last fall for the Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team.
Walter logged just under 500 minutes, producing one goal, while attempting 10 shots for Bakersfield.
In two seasons in the Central Valley, Walters has appeared in 36 games, logging 1,002 minutes, with two goals and an assist.
The most prolific scorer in Rancho San Juan history, Walters was named the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Mission Division Offensive Player of the Year in soccer and earned all-league honors in volleyball during her senior season.
Walters led the Trailblazers to league soccer titles in the Santa Lucia Division (2022) and the Mission Division (2023) during her sophomore and junior seasons.
