Trump to host racers ahead of F250 Grand Prix. When is DC street race?

The National Mall will get its first IndyCar race later this summer.

Freedom 250, the quasi-government group founded by President Donald Trump that was behind the Great American State Fair, is not done with events celebrating America's 250th anniversary. Still planned is the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., where the high-speed, open-air cars will whizz along 1.7 miles of track by some of the capital's landmarks.

Ahead of the race, Trump is hosting a "Grand Prix Showcase" at the White House on July 13, where some drivers and other officials will join him. That includes Álex Palou, the current top-ranking driver in the NTT IndyCar Series. The expected appearances were first reported by NBC News.

Athletic competition still to come this summer

Another Freedom 250 event still coming up is the 2026 Patriot Games, an athletic competition for high school students.

The competition will feature one male and one female athlete representing their home state or territory, "in a series of high-intensity challenges designed to test strength, speed, agility, teamwork, resilience, and leadership," the website states.

The competition will take place in Geneva, Ohio from Aug. 9-11, with a televised finale on Aug. 13.

Winners get $125,000 in scholarship funding.
