Spurs' Carter Bryant Reacts to Victor Wembanyama's Contract Extension

Victor Wembanyama committed to a long-term future with the San Antonio Spurs last Friday, agreeing to a five-year, $252 million maximum extension.

Wembanyama’s extension includes a fifth-year player option. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman reportedly decided to go with the 25% maximum instead of the 30% supermax escalators to $303 million, saving the Spurs around $50 million over the next five seasons.

“Spurs family, I'm here to stay. Whatever it takes,” Wembanyama posted on social media Friday.

Wembanyama just led the Spurs to an NBA Finals appearance at just 22 years old. He was the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year and Western Conference Finals MVP, finishing third in NBA MVP voting in just his third season.

The Spurs are understandably thrilled to have a generational talent on their roster for years to come. Rising second-year player Carter Bryant, who shares a close off-court relationship with Wembanyama, was asked about the extension at Summer League on Sunday.

“Having Vic around, I mean, it’s the best thing in the world,” Bryant told reporters.

Bryant joined the Spurs as the No. 14 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Wembanyama, Bryant and veteran forward Harrison Barnes spent a lot of time doing off-court activities together this past season.

“Vic loves to do extracurricular activities,” Bryant said. “We’ve done a bunch of dope stuff.”
