Bubba Wallace Accused of 'Disrespectful' Behavior After 29th Place Finish Sunday
Bubba Wallace has been accused of "disrespectful" behavior following his 29th place finish in the NASCAR Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway on Sunday evening.
The Cup Series race, which didn't end up finishing until after 2 a.m. E.T. due to weather delays, featured a lot of drama. Wallace, driving the No. 23 Toyota for 23XI Racing, was close to the lead at one point. However, toward the end of the race, he was hit with a penalty for dropping below the yellow line, and he dropped toward the back of the pack. Wallace ultimately blamed fellow Toyota driver Ty Gibbs for the miscue.
Gibbs did not appreciate that. He spoke sternly following the race, calling out Wallace for "disrespect."
Gibbs and Wallace had a heated interaction following the race.
"Yeah, I went to tell him I'm sorry because he cleared himself, and then unfortunately, he showed a lot of disrespect.
"I don't know. Yeah, seems like it didn't really work out for him, but I just tried to help him out there at the end, push him to win, but it didn't happen."
Wallace, meanwhile, had his own thoughts on the chaos
Wallace doesn't believe he was at fault for what happened.
"I turned down and got super loose, so just to keep it straight, I ended up there," said Wallace. "It's unfortunate. You can go back and look at the SMT. I was all over the brakes trying to just get the spot back.
"It says don't go below the yellow line to gain a position, which I didn't. I was still third, and I got a shove from the 54 (Ty Gibbs) to go to second. So, technically, no positions were gained doing that. Again, SMT data shows me try to get it back, but the 54 just shoves us by here."
Wallace certainly knows how to find himself at the center of the drama, that's for sure.
The 23XI Racing driver dropped to 13th in the Cup Series points standings as we head deeper into July.
