NCS softball roundup: Alameda pitcher throws no-hitter in quarterfinal win

Julia Lambert had herself a game while leading Alameda to the semifinals of the North Coast Section Division I softball playoffs.

The junior pitched a no-hitter Friday while collecting two hits herself.

It added up to an 8-0 victory for the top-seeded Hornets over eighth-seeded California and a matchup on Tuesday against College Park for a trip to the final.

Lambert walked three and struck out nine as Alameda improved to 22-4.

She went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Alameda also got three hits and two RBIs from Miley Gradney and a hit and two RBIs from Molly Cho.

The Hornets had won nine in a row before losing to Castro Valley last week.

They were ready to go after an opening-round bye, scoring two in the first, five in the second and one in the third to take command.

California finished 15-12.

No. 2 San Ramon Valley 6, No. 7 American Canyon 3:Slow and steady was the name of the game for SRV (21-6), which scored exactly two runs in innings one, three and five to advance to the NCS semis, where it will host No. 3 Livermore in a rematch of the East Bay Athletic League tournament championship.

SRV got three RBIs from sophomore Gia Ryan, one from sophomore Laci Fox and another from freshman Natalie Sun.

Lila McLeod pitches a complete game for the Wolves with three runs allowed on eight hits with 12 strikeouts against two walks.

American Canyon finished 20-4.

No. 4 College Park 1, No. 5 Castro Valley 0: A true pitchers' duel got the best of Castro Valley (21-6) as College Park's Savannah Wilson spun a complete-game gem, pitching seven shutout innings with four hits allowed and three strikeouts against one walk.

CV's Alanis Robertson was no slouch herself, also going the distance with one earned run allowed in six innings of work, finishing with five hits and four strikeouts against a walk.

Viviana Moguel had the money swing for College Park, bringing in Madilyn Robinson on an RBI groundout to the right side in the third inning. Robinson led off the inning with a single, reached second on Elle Osborne's base hit and advanced to third on Alexis Weiler's fielder's choice.

College Park is 19-6.

Division II

No. 9 Foothill at No. 1 Marin Catholic (tied 5-5 after 11 innings): Marin Catholic scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to send its quarterfinal game against visiting Foothill to extra innings tied 3-3.

Both teams scored a run in the 10th and one more in the 11th before the game was suspended because of darkness.

The teams will start the 12th inning Saturday at 9 a.m.

No. 2 Salesian 5, No. 7 Encinal 4: In a back-and-forth game, Salesian delivered the decisive blow when Cristina Martinez Aldaco hit a home run to center that broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning.

DeAmor Coleman and Kendrick Jobe also homered for Salesian, which improved to 21-2.

The Pride move on to the semifinals at home on Wednesday against third-seeded Northgate.

Encinal finished 14-12-1.

No. 3 Northgate 4, No. 6 Vintage 2: Northgate scored three runs in the home half of the fifth to erase a one-run deficit and beat Vintage in a quarterfinal game.

Ashley Herman led Northgate with a home run, a double and three RBIs. She also struck out 13 in the circle.

Taelyn Jriyasetapong and Sophie Hanko added two hits apiece for Northgate, which upped its record to 13-10.

Vintage ended its season 15-12.

Division III

No. 6 Alhambra 9, No. 3 Bishop O’Dowd 7 (8 innings): Nichaela West's two-out single in the visitor's half of the eighth drove in Arianna Navaro and Hailey Powers, and the Bulldogs held on to defeat Bishop O'Dowd in a quarterfinal game.

Alhambra will host Freedom in the semifinals on Wednesday.

West finished with three hits, including two doubles, and knocked in four runs. Adalyn McCoy and Juliana Carranza each added two RBIs as Alhambra improved to 13-12-1..

O'Dowd finished 9-15-1.
