Local Roundup: St. Pat's baseball advances to quarterfinals

St. Pat's 7, Ferndale 3

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High baseball team defeated Ferndale on the road earlier this week 7-3 to advance to the second-round of the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs.

It was the fourth win in a row for the Bruins and 14th victory in their last 16 games.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but added some breathing room by scoring five runs in the top of the fourth to make it 6-0. After adding a run in the sixth inning the Bruins held on in the seventh to escape a jam with a victory.

St. Pat's was led by Royce Pennington, who threw six innings and gave up four hits and no earned runs while striking out five. He also excelled at the plate, collecting three hits including a double and a triple. He drove in two runs and stole a base.

Lucius Lissner and Xavier Brewer each had two hits, while Manuel Martinez and Madden Mendez each drove in two runs.

St. Pat's advanced to play St. Helena on Friday night at 7 p.m. on the road.

Albany 8, Bethel 1

The Bethel High baseball team saw its season come to an end earlier this week with an 8-1 loss to Albany in the first round of the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs.

Albany scored six runs in the third inning and never looked back in the victory.

Bethel finishes the season with an overall record of 10-16-1.

Bishop O' Dowd 4, Benicia 1

The Benicia HIgh baseball team lost to Bishop O'Dowd 4-1 on Wednesday in the first round of the North Coast Section Division 2 playoffs.

Bishop O'Dowd starting pitcher Dimitri Williams threw five innings and allowed just four hits and one earned run.

Benicia finishes with an overall record of 13-12.
