Fever Coach Stephanie White Defiant After WNBA's Caitlin Clark Warning
Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White faced multiple questions about the Caitlin Clarkinjury saga on Friday ahead of their home game against the Golden State Valkyries.
This is after the Fever ruled Clark out less than two hours before Wednesday's contest against the Portland Fire due to a back injury. The two-time All-Star, however, was not listed on the injury report the day before, despite the fact that, according to White, Clark missed practice due to the back issue.
The WNBA issued a warning to the Fever for mishandling Clark's injury. Per league rules, the injury should have been disclosed the day before the game, but the team failed to do so.
White, however, remained defiant when asked about her reaction to the warning.
"My reaction is for what?" she told reporters during her pregame interview, adding, "Because we did things the right way."
White was pressed about the team providing information about player injuries. The veteran coach kept her response blunt.
"Yeah, I don't disclose anything that's not already disclosed by our medical team, by our franchise," White responded.
Based on her statements, it is clear that White believes the Fever did nothing wrong. She did not expound on her sentiments, though, choosing to move on from the issue as quickly as possible.
The good news is that it was just a one-game absence for Clark. The 24-year-old is back on the floor for Friday's game as the Fever look to improve on their 3-2 record.
Clark, who was limited to just 13 games last season due to multiple injuries, has had a strong start to the new season. Heading into Friday's contest, the former WNBA Rookie of the Year has averaged 24.3 points on 42.5% shooting, 5.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in four games played. She's also knocking down 3.0 triples on a 32.4% clip.
