Angel Reese Celebrates Wendell Carter Jr. and Magic's Upset Over Detroit
Last November, Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. was asked to characterize his relationship with WNBA All-Star Angel Reese while appearing on FanDuel’s “Run It Back.”
“That's the homie, for sure," Carter said. “We locked in. Y’all gonna find out when y’all need to find out. We’ll just leave it at that. That’s my girl, though. We locked in, for sure.”
Reese responded at the time by writing on X, “Period homie.”
It’s assumed that Carter and Reese are dating, but they’ve never explicitly said so publicly. Whatever the nature of their relationship, Reese was hype for Carter and the Magic on Sunday night.
The eighth-seeded Magic visited the top-seeded Detroit Pistons for Game 1 of their first-round Eastern Conference series in the NBA playoffs. The Magic are heavy underdogs in the series, but they pulled off a 112-101 upset to go up 1-0.
“Play the songggggggggg,” Reese posted on X. Reese also reposted Magic highlights throughout the game.
“Play the song” is Orlando’s rallying cry, as detailed here.
The Magic’s entire starting five scored double-digits, including Carter Jr.’s 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. He also posted seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Carter Jr. was the seventh overall pick of the Chicago Bulls in the 2018 NBA Draft. After two seasons, the Bulls traded him to Orlando in March 2021.
Eerily enough, Reese was the seventh overall pick of the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft. After two seasons, the Sky traded Reese to the Atlanta Dream earlier this month.
Reese joins the Dream with high expectations, as she’s viewed as the final piece to put an already-stout Atlanta core over the top. The 2026 WNBA season begins on May 8.
The Magic and Pistons will face off in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
