Prep football roundup: Paso Robles, Mission Prep fall in first-round playoff games
La Mirada, the defending CIF State Division III-AA champions, ended Paso Robles High’s season Friday night with a dominating 49-7 win in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.
La Mirada jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and held a 42-0 advantage at halftime behind three Tristan Meyer touchdown passes. The second half was played with a running clock.
The dominant La Mirada defense, stacked with Division I prospects, held Paso Robles to just 119 yards of offense. Cornerback/wide receiver Elijah Hicks, who is committed to Notre Dame, had a 46-yard touchdown catch and a 56-yard punt return for a touchdown for La Mirada.
Paso Robles finishes its season with an 8-3 record.
Dos Pueblos 29, Mission Prep 16
Mission Prep held a halftime lead, but Dos Pueblos rallied for a 29-16 win the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 10 playoffs.
It was the first time since 2001 that Dos Pueblos won a playoff game, according to Noozhawk.com.
A Bryce Fledderman touchdown pass and a Kyle Continente 35-yard field goal helped Mission Prep take a 9-7 lead into halftime. A touchdown catch by Mission Prep’s Brayden Corona, who finished with 26 carries for 112 yards, put the Royals up 16-7 with 2:39 to play in the third quarter.
Dos Pueblos answered with two touchdowns and took a 22-16 lead on a touchdown pass from Kellen Roberts to Cyrus Wallace with 2:13 left in the game.
A Mission Prep interception followed by a Dos Pueblos touchdown with 17 seconds left sealed the win for the Chargers.
Mission Prep’s season ends with a 4-6 record.
