Bruce Gibson’s rebuttal: DA has ‘piled on more disinformation and lies’
I appreciate the opportunity to speak directly to some of the laughably false assertions made about me by my opponent’s supporters.
Unlike my opponent, I’m willing and able to speak for myself. I won’t hide behind anonymous front groups, misleading spokespeople or a highly partisan officeholder who’s chosen to insert himself into the 2nd District supervisor race.
During this campaign, I’ve openly laid out my policy positions on matters that are important to the residents of San Luis Obispo County: drought, homelessness, next-gen housing, public safety, and other matters of public concern.
On the other hand, my opponent and his dark-money backers have offered scant public policy proposals and instead have coughed up a steady stream of rank personal attacks and blatant disinformation.
On the matter of my support of law enforcement, let me give you one example of a lie that continues to be spread by my opponent and his supporters, including our district attorney.
In 2017, I voted to protect the funding for a new sheriff’s substation in Nipomo — not to kill the project as they falsely claim. I voted against a sweetheart deal that let a developer off the hook to provide adequate funds to build that facility.
The Tribune has rightfully editorialized on the hyper-partisanship of our district attorney.
His response validates that opinion: He didn’t deny that his $25,000 funding of a dark-money front group has fueled a campaign of distortion and lies against me.
Unsurprisingly, he piled more disinformation and lies on top of that omission. He insinuates I have little interest in the workings of his office, when in fact I’ve supported numerous programs such as the Anti-Gang Coordinating Commission and other programs that have improved public safety in our county.
That’s truly a sad commentary on someone who fancies himself a “warrior for truth.”
It is, however, consistent with the fact that my opponent’s campaign promised early on to “throw the mud” and run a “dirty” campaign lite on policy and heavy on smears, distortions and lies.
You’d think our county’s top prosecutor would have tempered his partisanship in the aftermath of getting his entire office disqualified from the Tianna Arata case — due to his raising campaign cash off it.
I’m proud of my long support of and by law enforcement. Let me remind you I’m endorsed by retired police chiefs, retired SLO County chief probation officials, retired judges and a host of community leaders who’ve known and worked with me over the years.
The 2nd District supervisor election presents a clear contrast in candidates and campaigns.
My opponent has others speak for him, offers no policy proposals, refuses to talk to the press, hides behind dark-money front groups and encourages his supporters to say most anything but the truth.
I’m running on my record of getting things done for the community and I’ve offered concrete policy solutions to our toughest problems. I’ve never hesitated to show up and stand personally accountable for my positions and the results.
I’ve been honored to serve the citizens of San Luis Obispo County for 16 years and look forward to continuing that service in the coming term.
