Matthew Hoy has no reason to insult children in his Viewpoint

Matthew Hoy (Viewpoint, “SLO County should weigh both the benefits and the risks of Phillips 66 rail spur,” Aug. 6) uses the adult-child dichotomy to explain why environmentalists, who he dubbed cultish and childish, oppose the rail spur — thinking it is a metaphysical certainty that something really bad will happen.

I would like to remind him that it was adults who elected to use the atom bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima when it was not a metaphysical certainty they were needed.

And besides, why insult children?

As Jesus reportedly said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3).
