A new, respectful protocol for politics

Imagine a meeting room overlooking a parking garage and a bakery — a room with eight to 10 chairs set in a circle for weekly meetings of members of both political parties who agree to this protocol: Each person promises to begin each meeting telling a specific incident from childhood (for we were all children once), to keep remarks under five minutes, to listen to each other, to promise to consider opposing viewpoints and, finally, to return the next week and sign up to take a turn as leader/timekeeper.

I have this dream so I can understand, and therefore respect, those politicians whom I now ridicule.
