Community comes together to make Diablo Canyon closure easier

On June 28, my wife and I journeyed to the State Lands Commission meeting in Sacramento to show our support for the permit extension for the cooling water intake and discharge of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant until decommissioning 2025.

To our pleasure, we saw local elected officials speaking in favor of the extension, such as our San Luis Obispo County sheriff and a representative for the Atascadero City Council. It was also nice to hear that other residents of our county seeking election had sent in letters of support, such as Jordan Cunningham who is running for state Assembly.

My wife and I would like to thank these people and many residents from our local community for showing support as well.

Our community showing support may have made an impact when the State Lands Commission voted to approve the license extension.

Now, more than ever, we need our elected officials and members of the community to unify in the upcoming years and support companies that are willing to create local jobs.
