SLO County grand jury report on minor use permits not a ‘slam’

The San Luis Obispo County grand jury report on minor permits was NOT a “slam” as your headline stated at the county’s Planning Department (“Grand jury slams minor use permits,” June 21). It was a totally diluted report conforming to jury standards.

The report was aimed at the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors to fund the rewrite of the county’s General Plan, hoping they would at the same time reconsider their neutering of the Affordable Housing in Lieu Fees and Housing Impact Fees. Fees the Board of Supervisors reduced from $9.97 in 2013 to $0.75 in 2015.

Obviously, affordable housing is not a high-priority item with the majority of the Board of Supervisors, but possibly that attitude might change with the latest information that San Luis Obispo County is the sixth most unaffordable place to live in the United States.
