SLO County’s desperate need for oak protection

A few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

Most San Luis Obispo County private landowners are outstanding stewards of our oak woodlands. The Sinton family comes to mind, but there are many others.

The optimist in me wanted to believe that voluntary oak conservation would be enough. Seeing what the Wonderful Co. has done makes me angry, sad and aware that we need a San Luis Obispo County oak protection ordinance.

We can’t afford such destruction of the oak woodlands that provide rich habitat, scenic beauty and countless other benefits for people and wildlife. It’s up to us to make sure that these priceless treasures are here for future generations to enjoy.
