Why say ‘Democrat’ but not ‘Republican’?

From what I’ve seen, TV ads for most Democratic candidates display the word “Democrat.” I don’t recall seeing candidates identifying themselves as “Republican.”

Are they hoping no one will identify them as being of that party? Confused as to what “Republican” means in these Trump/Ryan days? Aware that Republican extremes seem much farther apart than are Democratic extremes?

As a nonpartisan voter, I’m just wondering is all.
