Awareness is key to stopping tax scammers
Thank you for your article on tax scams (“Watch for scams this year while filing your income taxes,” April 7). As a first-timer in filing taxes, I am grateful to know there are risks that come with doing so.
Although I filed my own taxes, having the knowledge to be on guard is still helpful because $29 million lost as a nation is a big chunk of money. By spreading this awareness, this could potentially stop scammers — or at least create a decrease in scams — due to more people being on the lookout.
The public may already be familiar with tax scammers, but I believe that by regurgitating the information every tax season, scamming could slowly come to an end.
