SLO County Republicans funded by giant corporations

In support of William Ostrander’s recent Viewpoint, “Citizens Congress won’t give up effort to introduce ‘democracy vouchers’ in SLO” (April 16):

This page on the California secretary of state’s website, http://bit.ly/23U0xUe, provides clear evidence that our county is up for sale. This site identifies historical payments made to the San Luis Obispo County Republican Central Committee ensuring the winning of elections.

Millions of dollars have been passed into this county by outside sources to buy politicians. For example: Fossil fuel corporations represented by California Resource, Sempra Energy, Occidental Petroleum, Valero, California Independent Petroleum and others have committed hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Health insurance and medical agencies Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Dentist Insurance PAC, California Medical Association, Aetna Inc, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, United Health Care, California Hospital Association and CAPG Physician Group — opposing Obamacare and single-payer health insurance and committed to keeping premiums up and profits high — have paid millions.

Energy giants PG&E and Edison International have contributed six-figure payments. Tech and financial firms California Bankers Association, Hewlett-Packard, Advance America, Intuit Inc, Farmers Group, Terra-Gen Finance, California Credit Union League and Charles Munger (Berkshire-Hathaway) have dumped ridiculous sums, with Munger once giving a single payment of $167,814.50. Sadly, The Tribune allows only 200 words, or else the list would take pages.

Citizens, your leaders are bought and paid for.
