SLO Councilwoman Christianson surprisingly indignant in water Viewpoint
I was surprised at the indignant tone of Councilwoman Carlyn Christianson’s Viewpoint concerning the city of San Luis Obispo’s water supplies and development (“Fears and facts about SLO city water,” March 31).
According to the councilwoman, despite several years of drought and the underperforming El Niño, there is nothing to worry about; there is plenty of water for current residents and the 11,000 new ones that will be added under the General Plan. And if we do start to run out of water in three years, we’ll do something beforehand.
It wasn’t long ago that city officials were saying we wouldn’t run out of water for seven years, so the trend isn’t promising.
Yes, the city has done a good job of diversifying its water supply. But it’s also done a good job of managing both the phasing and amount of growth. Supply and demand must be balanced.
