Unequal pay for female college athletes at tournaments

Very nice long article about the benefits, or lack thereof, of being invited to participate in postseason basketball tournaments, NIT and NCAA (“Is NIT ever better than NCAA?” March 28). It’s a lot of money if you get to the NCAA, and quite a bit less for getting to the NIT. But this article never even recognizes that there are also women’s basketball tournaments. How much do women get for participating in these tournaments? Title IX seems to be something the NCAA and the universities and colleges have never heard of.

Too bad this inequality isn’t the topic of an article discussing the misogynistic attitude of the NCAA and others in sports as evidenced by the latest stupidity shown in tennis.

Maybe The Tribune’s editorial staff and the staffs at a number of other publications should read and think about what they print, and just maybe try to get some equality in their stories.
