Don’t pay people a ‘living wage’
Once again, the politicians are doing whatever they can to kill business in California. The deal to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour will do just that. The excuse given is that everybody needs to make a “living wage.” If that is the case, you better raise it to at least $30 an hour.
Whatever the original reason for implementing the minimum wage, it should not now be used as a “living wage.” It should be for young, new workers entering the workforce. If people want to make more, they should work hard at promoting and moving up in the company, or switch companies.
Do you think people now making more than minimum wage will be content with everyone beneath them in seniority and job description making the same wage? No. They will want a bump in pay also, causing a ripple effect that will put many small companies out of business. Workers these days want to have no more responsibility than taking out the trash and mopping floors, yet they want to get paid like the district manager. Another stupid move by California lawmakers.
