Our military deserves better
It never surprises me when your letters section is made up of biased, one-sided, anti-Republican rants, but whoever chooses the letters for publication may have outdone themselves this time. Included was a real doozy of a criticism of our military (“Trump’s diatribes echo dangerous time in history,” March 15). The writer sarcastically spoke of our current Republican candidates and their love for our military and how they want to spend more on “our poor, beleaguered military that has to eke by on more money than is spent by the next eight largest countries combined.”
Hello! Who do you think is protecting those countries? Us!
I help to pack boxes every week for our troops, and it is infuriating to learn what our men and women are not being supplied with these days — such as breakfast! We get pleas for boots that fit, toothpaste, socks, magazines for rifles, soap and on and on. Our troops certainly aren’t being pampered as this writer suggested.
Wipes for soldiers in the field who must go for days without showers, warm gloves and basic feminine hygiene products are just a few of the needs of our troops that are not being met by this government.
