North County should secede from SLO County

Paso Robles voters rejected proposed measures to form a Paso Robles groundwater management district in an election in early March. The proposed district would have been managed by a hybrid board of citizens and landowners.

I have been a resident of North County since 1977. The political and cultural divide between North County and the southern and coastal San Luis Obispo communities has always been as big as the Cuesta Grade is high.

The recent clash over the Paso Robles groundwater basin seems to have made the Grade even a little higher, metaphorically speaking.

We have been separated for decades, but still try to share the checkbook.

Let’s finalize the divorce. I vote for the secession of the North County from San Luis Obispo County — forming Paso Robles County.

Chris Temple, Atascadero
