Too sorry for Fulks to understand his point

Tom Fulks gave me a wonderful opportunity to use his column (“Proposed psychiatric hospital in Templeton is a beacon of hope,” Feb. 27) as an example to my daughter about the perils of judgmental reasoning.

Yep, he nailed it. We, the uneducated ilk of Templeton, must deserve the profound disdain and frustration inherent in Mr. Fulks’ column. For without it, methinks I might actually have continued seeing the good in my fellow Templetonians.

Via words from Mr. Fulks’ own caring heart, I learned that we Templeton folk must be bigots if we disagree with the proposed psychiatric care facility (as it stands right now). Yep, we surely must be fearful and ignorant and heartless. Yep, we certainly must be “closed-hearted” as we live in our “God-fearing fortress of charmed-life privilege.”

What?

I’m not really sure what message Mr. Fulks was trying to send, but his points about the proposed psychiatric hospital were lost amidst his pointed, gloomy negativity.

Perhaps Mr. Fulks’ words had merit. Unfortunately, I was left simply feeling sorry for the man who wrote them.

Jeri Luther, Templeton
