Phillips 66 will be fine without local oil trains

Before shedding tears for Phillips 66 over not getting its oil trains, a few facts:

Phillips 66 is the seventh largest oil and gas corporation in the United States, with revenue of $161 billion in 2014. It has more than 14,000 employees worldwide. The company continues to expand despite changes in the global oil market.

Quite frankly, the threat that employees will be let go because the oil trains are stopped is just not credible.

San Luis Obispo County planners have clearly stated there are not sufficient economic or social benefits to override the many negative impacts of bringing more oil trains through our cities. The vast majority of county residents agree and oppose this project.

Last I checked, the Planning Commission represents the people of this county, not Phillips 66. So let’s get this over with. Deny the plan to bring these trains through our county. Phillips 66 will be just fine.
