Support available for foster children in San Luis Obispo County
Thank you for highlighting the challenges for many of our grandparents (and other kin caregivers) in your article “More grandparents taking on parental role for grandchildren,” Feb. 18.
San Luis Obispo is fortunate to have Family Ties, a kin caregiver program of Kinship Center (a member of Seneca Family of Agencies) and the San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services.
Many children enter the foster care system because birthparents are unable or unwilling to care for them. Whenever possible, children are placed with relatives. Many of these children have significant physical, emotional or developmental challenges, or they suffer from past traumas. Family Ties makes possible an array of services that build the capacity of relative caregivers to promote the children’s safety and well-being.
For more information, contact Family Ties at 75 North Main St., Suite B, Templeton 93465 or at 434-2126.
