Ted Cruz’s in-laws are exemplary community members of SLO

As much as I am in disagreement with Ted Cruz about most everything, I object to the mention of Cruz’s in-laws in the recent Joetopia column (“Ted Cruz is too close for comfort, in more ways than one,” Feb. 21).

My husband and I were Dr. Peter Nelson’s patients for more than 20 years until his recent retirement, and we continue to be patients in the practice he founded. Over the years, I have gained a great respect for the charitable work that both Dr. and Mrs. Nelson have done both locally and abroad. They frequently make trips to remote foreign locations for dental clinics, volunteer with the homeless overflow program here in town and, I am sure, selflessly contribute much I don’t know about.

It is also to Dr. Nelson’s credit that his staff has remained almost unchanged in the many years we have used his office. The Nelsons are generous, exemplary members of our community and should be so honored.
