Where’s the justice in Senate making the Supreme Court

Can anyone explain why the Republicans think the majority of the Supreme Court justices should continue to reflect conservative positions now that Justice Antonin Scalia has died.

There are nine justices, but the composition of the court changes over time. There have been times when the majority has been “liberal” and now it is “conservative.”

That’s only because vacancies came during times when the president was conservative and a responsibly acting Senate approved his nominee. But our current Senate has become so dysfunctional/arrogant/ridiculous it thinks a nominee has to reflect the majority of the Senate. I can’t find the section of the Constitution that says that’s their job.
