Don’t defer Supreme Court nomination by a year
I am offended by Republicans who refer to themselves as “the people” as if the rest of us don’t exist. The naming and confirmation of a person to fill the vacancy created by the death of one of the nine Supreme Court justices is a case in point.
Sens. Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz, and others, I suspect, are rudely suggesting that those who disagree with them are less than “people.” I seriously resent their insinuation. It is obvious the GOP hates having a black man running the show, but that man has done a remarkable job despite the obstruction the party has thrown on him and us.
Why should we respect you or those in your party more than Barack Obama, whose decency and character exceeds yours to the extent that now you are determined to refuse any and all choices he may offer to fill the seat on the Supreme Court by the sudden death of Justice Antonin Scalia? It is ridiculous to defer appointing a new justice until 2017, a year from now. Lose the election, and what will you have gained?
