Is Donald Trump the best Republicans can do?

David Brooks’ commentary (Feb. 3) on Donald Trump’s “manners war” put in perspective the negativity and coarseness we have witnessed this campaign season.

I find it very doubtful that Trump’s rhetoric will provide or ignite any thoughtful discussion, which will affect us as a nation.

Can you imagine such a man representing us abroad with any amount of diplomacy?

Brooks compares Trump’s performances at wrestling events as theater, but if you ever saw the film “The Wrestler,” staring Mickey Rourke, you will find yourself woefully saddened by his histrionics, theater or not.

As a post-feminist woman, I find him to be an insulting bore, and if that is the best the Republican Party can do, then we are in for a dreary and uncivilized election cycle.

As Brooks so eloquently states: “... reminding everyone from all classes that we are one nation, one people, with one fate.” We deserve better than Trump’s “manners war.”
