Morro Bay government should stay out of tourism efforts
The Tribune’s recent article “What’s ahead for Morro Bay in 2016 — a talk with Mayor Jamie Irons” in Insight caught my interest.
We look to government to provide for the common good and do things in that realm that individuals can’t or won’t do. Unfortunately, governments can’t resist expanding their roles into matters better controlled by its citizens.
This isn’t a rant on tyranny, just a nudge to the mayor and City Council in Morro Bay. The city administration has expanded its role in tourism promotion from cooperation to help, to leading the effort.
Morro Bay should have stopped at the help level. Tourism promotion is not the type of job city government is any good at.
