SLO Symphony now better than before controversy
Last weekend’s superb performance by the San Luis Obispo Symphony was a true revelation. The orchestra is much better than before all of the controversy. The visiting conductors, so far three of them (two more to go this season) have been beyond excellent. Any of them could be a worthy full-time conductor ... but the visiting conductor idea has a lot of merit.
In short, there is a good story there. It has been nearly a year after the giant contretemps over Michael Nowak’s firing, all the gnashing of teeth, and now what we have is a better orchestra (much better preparation/rehearsal), more interesting music, different soloists and a much more enthusiastic group of concertgoers.
Michael who?
