Urge action on climate change

In light of county deliberations about Phillips 66 and the ongoing methane disaster in Southern California, please note:

Fifteen mayors of major South Florida cities sent a letter to presidential candidates this week, calling on them to acknowledge the urgency of climate change.

“Ignoring climate science and doubling down on fossil fuels will only make the climate crisis more rapid and expensive … We need a realistic national plan to slow global warming emissions ...” Tomas Regalado, the Republican mayor of Miami, stated. “Anyone who thinks that the topic of climate change is a partisan issue is not focused on the reality which we as public officials and citizens are dealing with. This is a crisis that grows day by day.”

They join many other mayors, city councils and county boards of supervisors in urging federal legislators to address the crisis.

The San Luis Obispo chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby (http://citizensclimatelobby.org) encourages our local elected officials to participate in the effort by encouraging Congress to pass Carbon Fee and Dividend. This legislation levels the playing field in competition between dirty and clean energy and is the most effective way to bring about the worldwide emission reductions necessary to save the planet.
