SLO is more interested in fines, fees to pad city coffers

On behalf of San Luis Obispo, I would like to apologize to visiting tourist Carey Webster for receiving an unquestionably exorbitant dog leash ticket (“SLO Laguna Lake Park dog leash ticket is exorbitant, appalling,” Jan. 31). Unfortunately, you visited SLO under the Jan Marx City Council, which is most interested in fining, penalizing and feeing everything they can to raise money to pad city coffers and hire needless personnel.

In the specific case of leash laws, Jan would rather use a stick approach and punish citizens, rather than reward those who get their dogs voice- and/or site-trained by allowing them to hike on trails with their dogs off-leash (e.g., Boulder, Colo.).

Norm Borin, San Luis Obispo
