Regarding the article “This propane fire pit is a snap to make” in the Home & Garden section on Jan. 20: The photos are beautiful, and I understand the allure of happy people gathered around a fire pit.

But may I humbly suggest that owners of these fire pits be mindful of (1) the fire hazard that they potentially pose and (2) the impact of the smoke that they produce. I have neighbors who own these pits, and they are generally very considerate, but there are unpleasant days when my home is filled with smoke if I leave my windows open.

And let us also please consider the environmental impact of these fire pits.
