SLO County officials embrace transparency
The Jan. 8 Bouquets and Brickbats concerning actions by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors succinctly addressed what was transparent in various news stories and letters of last year, e.g., the political support of District Attorney Dan Dow for Supervisor Debbie Arnold and then her lack of response concerning his hiring legal advise without consent of the board.
In that Mr. Dow fought to become head of the DA’s Office in opposition to the choice of Mr. Gerry Shea (former district attorney), it is not surprising that he takes calculated risks in what he believes is right.
I also believe that he took on a difficult task, and rightly so, concerning his own investigation team last year. Overall, I have been impressed by his performance, though I was disappointed in the areas The Tribune addressed in its editorial. However, I think everyone is trying to be open and transparent, even in their differences. I know it is hard to take a stand when it is not popular. Speaking up when there is a need is a moral imperative that ensures issues are addressed.
