Speak out against bigotry

How familiar to us are the vitriolic sounds being spewed against a majority of innocent people, by those now seeking political power: distortions, false accusations, absolute lies and hateful rhetoric — all in the name of national security.

Almost eight decades ago, we personally felt the agony of intimidation, isolation and finally rejection by acquaintances, neighbors and, yes, even former friends. It is a desperate, lonely place to find oneself.

Now is the moment to speak out against such bigotry and, above all, to reassure those victimized within our own community that we stand with them. We certainly do.
