No more mammals for meals
We did not eat mammals in 2015. The purpose for that New Year’s resolution was to raise our own awareness of the impact of mammals, as food for us human mammals. That also gave us the opportunity to discuss with our friends the impacts that commercially raised mammals have on greenhouse gases and climate, water consumption for animal feed, animal welfare and inhumane conditions — and, closer to home, our own health.
In 2016, we will eat whatever is served in our friends’ homes, but we will likely not order mammal at restaurants, and we will purchase only what we want as an ingredient in an otherwise plant-based diet.
I doubt we’re making any difference other than to ourselves, but that’s where it starts.
