Look within California’s own borders for problems
Joe Mathews needs to look beyond the state’s borders (“State should take no pride in its shabby borders,” Jan. 1). There’s a lot more that’s shabby. Look at the Central Valley, the North Coast and Shasta regions, and the Southern desert. All struggling. We are living off the San Francisco-to-San Diego coastal successes — an island of prosperity. The powers that be in Sacramento don’t seem to be interested in the rest of the state. Message to our Western neighbors: If you want income inequality, come on in, we’ve got it.
