Canadian geese a welcome sight at Los Osos golf course

I live in Los Osos, Center of the Universe. I live two houses from the golf course here. Every morning, I sit on my bench in front of my house and have my cup of coffee, read the paper and spot water my plants. I also notice my neighbors, watch my hummingbirds and other wildlife around, if there is any. It’s a quiet place — just the way I like it.

Lately, I have noticed that the golf course has new visitors. About 50 or so Canadian geese have decided to winter in the golf course and mow the lawn, which they eat. They are wonderful to see. They sweep in over my house in the morning and land on the course for breakfast, fill up and rest for the rest of the day. I hope they stay.

I’m sure some of the golfers aren’t happy about this because geese are great fertilizers and aren’t too particular about where they make their deposits. I’m not a golfing fan, but I say the geese are more than welcome. Los Osos is a bedroom community and the best there is. I feel fortunate to live here.
