Letters to the Editor

SLO County oil trains leave polluted-type smell

I’d like to add my thoughts to the letter from Debbie Highfill on Oct. 27, “Oil train is Irresponsible.” I live quite close to the tracks and the station in San Luis Obispo, and frequently use the adjoining bike path for a morning walk.

I have definitely noticed (even now) a change in the atmosphere since we seem to have more trains carrying oil than when I first moved here in 2005. I can detect a definite polluted-type smell even from my apartment at the corner of Johnson and Ella streets. (Ella runs down to the tracks.) I agree totally with Ms. Highfill and urge anyone who’s concerned to be proactive in this issue.

Francesca Nemko, San Luis Obispo
