Assisted suicide option is unused but wanted

Oxymoron or ironic, Merrill Matthews’ comment on “the sanctity of life” (pro/con on physician-assisted suicide, Oct. 19). Strange phrase from a Texan. Although probably no stranger than the rest of his arguments against physician-assisted suicide.

I wonder what fuels his terror of such a bill when even he acknowledges that only a very small number of people have made use of its provisions since its inception, some 50 a year, a similar number to the number executed by Texas each year.

I’m with Jerry Brown on this. I may never use it, but I certainly want the option open to me.

Gerry Finn, Paso Robles
