3 reasons to support Morro Bay sewer project

Morro Bay’s new wastewater treatment and water recycling facility will cost an estimated $126 million at its new site at the intersection of South Bay Boulevard and Highway 1. This image shows its existing plant near the ocean.

As a Morro Bay resident, I would like to express my opinion about the proposed sewer plant. Having watched Los Osos residents’ effort to stop progress on their new sewer system (35 years perhaps?), it occurs to me they ended paying far more in the end. Do the people of Morro Bay want that?

▪  Many of us are older. If we vote this down, it just passes the problem on to the next generation. We have already saddled the next generation with crushing college debt. Wages are stagnant. Be smart. Pay for it now when it is as cheap as it will get.

▪  If you don’t buy that idea, what about the concept that your property value will increase (admittedly along with your water bill)? View it as a sorely needed investment in infrastructure. I think Los Osos real estate is on the rise.

▪  Finally, it will help our environment.

Is it ideal? No, but what public improvement is ever ideal?

Is it needed? Yes.

Just one person’s opinion in favor of the project.
