All animals matter — the chickens and the fox, too

In response to the Letter to the Editor by Jim Vint, “What about the dead chickens?”:

Yes, equal consideration should be given to the lives of all animals, including the chickens that were killed or endangered by the fox. But I think you missed the point.

The real outrage here is that the fox didn’t have to be killed as well. The animal could have been relocated. There are animal rescue facilities that could have taken the fox. But instead, an administrative agency took the path of least effort and simply killed it.

The fox was uniquely able to adjust to human kind’s continuing expansion of civilization into its limited remaining and rapidly shrinking habitat. It deserved more. It deserved to live.
