California’s gas tax hurts poor

Over the years the California Legislature has generously provided needed social welfare programs to help the poor. In light of this, how ironic that the gasoline tax increase of 12-cents a gallon mostly hurts these same poor folks, who out of necessity drive their gas-guzzling clunkers to low- paying jobs.

Yes, California infrastructure is in terrible shape and in need of billions of dollars to fix, but there must be a more equitable way to raise those dollars than this regressive gas tax.
