We need more political parties
It is my opinion that the Republican and Democratic parties that existed in the 1950s have been long gone, replaced by blind ideologies pushing voters toward more socialism and more fascism.
It is also my opinion that, in order to successfully move a legislative agenda aimed at advancing the commonwealth of the nation as a whole (rather than the greed and selfishness of a few), we need more than two major political parties represented in Congress — at least three. I believe that successful coalitions cannot flourish with just two political parties. I have stated this opinion in previous letters to the Tribune.
Of course voter participation is vital, but in recent years the electorate has been infected by what Italians call ‘menefreghismo,’ which comes from the phrase ‘me ne frego,’ which means ‘I couldn’t care less.’ Let us hope that this attitude will be corrected in the future.
