Couple thanks rescuers who saved their lives at Shell Beach

I have never felt compelled to write and express my feelings as much as I do now, even though this is long overdue. On Aug. 21, 2016, my wife, three “children” (rescue dogs) and I were walking on Shell Beach when we were surprised by strong waves that immediately put our lives in danger. To make a remarkable story as brief as I can, local resident Carolyn Silas played a primary role in all of us being alive today. There were two men unknown to this day who were there for us and the others were looking after our family with blankets and other assistance. The Pismo Beach Police Department has our deepest gratitude for their compassion as well as their taking care of our “children” for the majority of that day.

Today it seems we primarily tend to focus on all that is wrong in the world and forget the daily heroism going on in our great country. Carolyn Silas, along with your wonderful community, are to be commended for their courage, caring and generosity and have helped reinforce with us that there are still “heroes” in this world.
