The United States must keep its promise to Dreamers

The Dreamers are innocent victims of their parents’ decisions to come here illegally. The USA is the only home they have ever known.

They trusted our government and came forward and declared themselves and their intent to be the best U.S. citizens they could possibly be.

They abide by the law, they study and work, and they contribute the best they have to our country. To deport them is reprehensible.

The 800,000 dreamers may not be eligible to vote, but mark my word, each one of them has a community of friends, employers, teachers, neighbors, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, boyfriends and girlfriends who will vote in 2018 and 2020.

America must keep its promise and give these outstanding young people a road to citizenship. To do otherwise is to turn our backs on the most sacred of American values.
