Most of us know that the ultimate protection for any democracy, including ours, is a free press. History shows that one of the first things a would-be dictator does is to go after the free press — to discredit and dismantle it at all costs, and replace it with a press that is a dictatorial mouthpiece.

When Trump goes after our press with a constant bombardment, screaming and yelling “Fake News,” he is heading down that road. It is disturbing to see polls showing he is helping to diminish the public trust in the free press.

To make it worse, the claims of fake news come from the commander in chief of lying himself!

Wake up, America, before it is too late. Erosion of a free press is the first step in a takeover of our democracy by the likes of Trump, Steve Bannon and their henchmen (not to mention with help from folks like Putin). The last few months have truly made me fearful about the future of our country.
