Reader saddened by potential deportation of Cal Poly students under Trump

President-elect Donald Trump.
President-elect Donald Trump. TNS

While reading The Tribune on Friday, Nov. 11, I had tears in my eyes.

The potential for deportation of undocumented Cal Poly students, (“Undocumented students worry about their futures at Poly”), and cancellation of the United States’ participation in the Paris climate accord, (“Fate of climate pacts unclear under a Trump presidency”) saddened me.

I have never considered myself a political person but always felt strongly about “liberal” issues, although I never acted on my beliefs. Now I feel guilty I did not do more to influence the direction of our democracy.

Yes, I marched; yes, I debated; yes, I read and listened to all the “correct” media, but I could have and should have done more. Now I want my family, friends, acquaintances and all those I may meet in the future to know who I am and what I stand for — I hope you will do the same.
